It's Almost Summer Time!
Summer time and body awareness are pretty much synonymous; unfortunately, summertime body awareness is usually not the most positive thing in the world. It mostly consists of a repetitive, self-deprecating spiral of ideas that leads to fear, angst and self-loathing.
So we're not going to do that here. I love summer time. It's one of my favorite times of year. And I think it's a great opportunity to focus on my mind-body connection. Lately, this is something that I've really been struggling with. I am waking up to the fact that I've been completely disconnected from my body for a long time! That's freaking scary! How is that even possible???
How can I re-build that connection? Honestly, I'm not completely sure. I know it can be done and I have some ideas; basically I'm going to figure it out as I go along. So, that's why I've decided to make this summer, the Summer of Self Love and I want you to join me!
My goal is to rebuild my mind-body awareness one step at a time. Are you struggling with this too? Let's rebuild together! I've already started incorporating a few things into my routine, but I'll be adding more throughout the summer. Some of the things I'll be doing are things I used to do, but somehow forgot about along the way. Many were taught to me by my Grandmother, and I'll also be reaching out to others for some expert advice as my journey continues. I would especially love it if you shared your tips and advice in the comments below or in the Soulful Essence facebook group. I think this is going to be so much fun!
Here's what I've been doing lately. It's not much, but it's a start
- Get On the Mat! - I'm prioritizing my yoga time. It does wonders for my mind-body connection!
- Stretch and Move - When I can't get on the mat, I try to get up and move a few times a day. I take 5 minutes before each meal to do a few of my favorite poses. I just do what by body asks me for.
- Walk in Nature - This is huge! It's such a great way to clear my head of all the clutter and when I'm done, I try to take a few minutes to sit in silence and observe how I'm feeling. I really love doing this!
One really cool thing I've discovered from my mindfulness journey is that awareness leads to inspiration. So I've come up with so many cool products and recipes to share with you, all designed to deepen our mind-body connection. Yay! Some of these will become new additions to the Soulful Essence line of products and others are DIY recipes I'll share with you. So be sure to stay tuned in this summer, so you can take advantage of all the delicious self-love!
I plan on making some really luxurious body butter this week. I've almost perfected the formula. I'll be sure to share it with you on the blog, so stay tuned.
